The Coordination Council for the Support of Labour Organization announced on Monday April 1 that on the previous two days, the families of detained labour activists joined with other members of the public to gather in front of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court and demand the detainees’ release. Security forces reportedly appeared on the scene and ordered the crowd to disperse and leave the area. The group reportedly refused to comply and finally agreed to have a number of its representatives meet with judiciary officials, who promised to conclude all investigations of the detainees by the end of Norooz holidays on April 2. The protesters have warned they will continue with public demonstrations should the officials fail to uphold their promises. On Thursday March 7th of 2013 five labor activists were arrested in Sanandaj at their homes through invasion of Sanandaj Etela’at agents. According to a report of coordinating committee to help form workers’ organization website, their names are Ali Azad, Vafa Ghaderi, Khaled Hosaini, Behzad Farajollahi and Hamed Mahmood Nezhad. Another worker by the name of Ghaleb Hosseini, a member of the Co-ordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organisations, was arrested on 19 March. All these activists are being held purely for their union activities, and must be released immediately and unconditionally.
