Mr de Grieff, your recent visit to Spain and your attempts at bringing about a process that emphasizes victim participation there has been a source of encouragement for us. Sudwind would like to bring another case to your attention. In the first decade after the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979, thousands were executed without proper trials or observance of judicial due process. At the height of this decade, in September 1988, more than 5,000 political prisoners were executed all over Iran within a period of weeks. While we are aware of your work in relation to countries that have undergone a transition, we would like to know your recommendation for countries that are yet to undergo such a transition. In 2012 the victims and their families established an informal tribunal in diaspora obtaining evidence from witnesses around the world, For submission to a panel of International judges, working pro bone presided over by the former president of the constitutional court of South Africa. While we are aware of your work in relation to countries that have undergone a transition, we would like to know your recommendation for countries that are yet to undergo such transition. Sudwind again, welcomes the Special Rapporteurs emphasis on the growing participation of the victims in judicial process and urges him to pick up from where the Iran Tribunal have completed this work with the violations of 1980 decade.
