Oral statement on (GD Item 2)on the crimes in Kahrizak detention center
Mr President We are very concerned about the following matters: – Growing conflict and the bloodshed in Syria which had mainly caused the civilians to suffer. According to reports, even the hospitals and schools are not excluded from attacks. The casualties of the civil war are mostly women and children. Sudwind welcomes a detailed investigation on the incident of Al-Qusayr and the usage of chemical weapons in Damascus which were reported last night. We strongly support Mrs Pillay’s suggestion to refer the Syrian war crimes which are clearly crimes against humanity to the International Criminal Court by the Security Council. Mrs. Pillay you mentioned the powerful statements to struggle against impunity in the Vienna conference which was held 20 years ago. – In Iran, last week the investigation into the Kahrizak detention center in Tehran was concluded. It seems that the judges and those who had ordered the crimes which caused the death, torture and irreversible damages to the health of detainees after the disputed election of 2009, are going to use all possible advantages of impunity. The crimes against detainees in the Kahrizak center could be categorized as crimes against humanity. We would like to stress Mrs Pillay’s statement which places a duty on us all to protect our fellow human beings even if they are born in other countries. – Sudwind would like to draw your attention to many asylums from neighboring countries that are living in Iran. There are also many Iranians who especially after the crises of the last 4 years have applied for asylum in other countries. The living conditions of many of these asylum seekers are so miserable that some preferred death and have committed suicide. Mr President, In three weeks Iran will have two other not free and not fair elections, i.e. presidential election and city council election. The guardian council a controlled organization by the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the only body to decide who runs for the elections. We believe that the Supreme leader is the main person responsible for the bad governance. A governance that is responsible for the adversity of the people of Iran. The sanctions in addition with this bad governance have put the normal people of Iran under serious pressure.
